MTN Nigeria has on Friday annouced the commencement of National identity number(NIN) for subscribers.
The Telecommunication company said it has begin the enrollment exercise for NIN on January, 29th, 2021, MTN Nigeria however revealed that that only available centers so far are located in three states which are Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt.
MTN senior manager, external relations, Funso Aina disclosed this in a statement on Friday while addressing Journalists
The announcement comes following an approval from the federal government which granted them a verification and enrolment license.
The federal government had ordered all Nigerian telecommunication companies to commence the registration of NIN for subscribers who haven’t enrolled yet at the NIMC offices in a bid to make the data collection easier and faster amidst difficulties applicants are facing at various NIN registration centres in the country.
Aina stated that the company is currently making some plans to extend the registration to more states.
In his statement, he said; “We have commenced enrollment for NIN at a limited number of locations. This number will rise as certification and other dependencies on the Nigerian Identity Management Commission for the roll-out of such locations are addressed.
“We have applied for and secured NIMC licence for enrollment. Additionally, we have invested in acquiring devices aligned with NIMC standard,”Aina added.
